Siler Climate Consulting is supporting the implementation of priorities that emerged from a year-long effort in partnership with BSC Group and the Montachusett Regional Planning Commission focused on identifying upstream and community-wide actions that advance future flood resilience in Leominster. These priorities include (1) the design of nature-based stormwater management solutions that can help slow, store, absorb, or safely move floodwater in public places; (2) the implementation of social resilience strategies that can strengthen coordination, communication, partnerships, and practical support across the community; and (3) the engagement of private property owners to build awareness of and understand barriers to the installation of nature-based solutions.
To implement social resilience strategies during this project, SCC will work closely with the Spanish American Center to improve language accessibility of emergency response and flood preparedness resources. Together we will also train community leaders in trauma-informed practices and host household- and neighborhood-scale workshops for flood resilience with low- and no-cost solutions. This project is funded through the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs’ Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Action Grant Program.
