VALUES
Siler Climate Consulting is a values-driven firm.
To support transparency and accountability, SCC’s theory of change and core beliefs are outlined below.
Siler Climate Consulting works across scales, from neighborhood to national, to support socially just climate resilience efforts. We believe that communities have an opportunity, and responsibility, to address the intertwined crises of climate change and inequality. In solidarity with working class movements for climate justice, we equip our clients with tools, processes, and support to understand and address the underlying structural and systemic drivers of climate injustice.
Through our work, we emphasize procedural justice, facilitate inclusive engagement processes, and support local leaders to weave climate considerations into all aspects of municipal governance and local planning. Through our ongoing work with communities, we aim to support a just transition towards regenerative and solidarity-based economies.
Theory of change
Communities are essential sites of possibility.
From rural to urban settings, people live in communities. Communities are the scale where policy and planning have the potential to materially improve people's lives. Communities also harness their interdependent networks to build alternative futures through mutual aid and collective care. At the community scale, grassroots organization and local governance can align and drive towards resilience and justice.
Climate action can be transformative.
Climate solutions, no matter how big or small, are always at a crossroads: will this exacerbate or reduce existing inequality. Thus, we see climate efforts as opportunities to address root causes of vulnerability, experiment with new practices, improve day-to-day material conditions for working class people, and facilitate governance systems that steward resources collectively.
The work for climate justice is enduring.
We have a shared responsibility to all people and to our shared future. People in positions of power will change. Dominant ideologies will shift. Conditions on the ground will evolve. Policy windows for progress will open and close. Whether there is friction, opposition, adversity, support, momentum, or acceleration, the imperative to shift and build the structures necessary for a just and sustainable future continues.
How we operate as a business reflects our values.
We believe that what is seeded at one scale intersects and impacts other scales. As we aim to support climate solutions that are moving towards regenerative economies, we see our business as nested within the future we aim towards through our client facing work. Our decision to develop a work-owned company is nested within and connected to our commitment to the power and self determination of people in the communities we support through our work.
